<b>Fuel prices go down </b><br>KAMPALA - Fuel prices have reduced barely a fortnight after they increased. The price of a litre of petrol has reduced from sh1,950 to sh1,920, whereas diesel reduced from sh1,690 to sh1,660 a litre.

KAMPALA - Fuel prices have reduced barely a fortnight after they increased. The price of a litre of petrol has reduced from sh1,950 to sh1,920, whereas diesel reduced from sh1,690 to sh1,660 a litre. The price fall was noted at Petro, Moil and Shell fuel stations in the city. The price of fuel had increased following a breakdown of a gas pipeline in Kenya. Shell Uganda chairman Ivan Kyayonka (above) attributed the breakdown to the power cuts.

Man charged over fraud
KAMPALA - A man accused of conning a family of sh30m was yesterday charged with obtaining money by false pretence. Edward Zimula was also charged with concealing the land title of block 380 Plot 10 at Makandwa in Wakiso. Zimula allegedly conned Rubita’s family of on pretext that he was selling them a piece of land between August 2005 and January 2006.

MPs to study Rwanda system
KAMPALA - A delegation of MPs is scheduled to travel to Rwanda on Thursday to study how public officers’ transport is facilitated. The group comprises the chairperson of the caucus of the whole House, Dr. Sam Lyomoki, Geoffrey Ekanya (Tororo), Henry Banyenzaki (Rubanda West), Dr. Chris Baryomunsi (Kinkizi East) and Jane Alisemera (Bundibugyo).

Police to get academy
MASINDI - The Government is to professionalise the Police Force, the Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura, has revealed. He said the transformation will involve strengthening of the existing Police training schools and establishing an academy at Naggalama in Mukono district. Kayihura was passing out special Police constables on Sunday.

Tumwine raps media
KAMPALA - General Elly Tumwiine has accused the media of lacking coordination and telling lies. “It is unfortunate that the media is not doing what we expected. They are always telling lies.” He, however, noted that it was not too late to change. Tumwiine was speaking at the launch of the ‘Rock Magazine’. The editor, Edwin Musiime, said the Christian magazine was meant to counter pornographic material on the streets. “I’m going to use this opportunity to hit back at the misleading media. It is going to be a global magazine.” Musiime heads the religious department of the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation and is an assistant interpreter at Kasanga Miracle Centre. The function held on Saturday at Hotel Equatorial, was attended by the internal affairs minister, Ruhakana Rugunda.

Govt reveals USE terms
KUMI - Only students who get between aggregates 4 to 32, will benefit from the Universal Secondary Education scheme. The finance state minister, Jachan Omach, said the Government would pay sh75,000 for every child per term. He said the purpose of the scheme was to fight poverty and illiteracy. “Once we are fully educated, we will be able to deal with poverty, ignorance.” Omach called on parents and church leaders to ensure that all children go to school. He also revealed that illegal guns would be withdrawn from the Karamoja region. Omach was speaking on Saturday at a fundraising drive for the construction of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Nyero.
