Uganda lost its top place in the Standard Chartered Bank Greatest Race on Earth marathon over the weekend. Alex Malinga’s time of 2:21:22 put Uganda’s total to 7 hours and 3 minutes, dropping to third in the contention for the $50,000 overall nation challenge top prize.

Miiro honoured
Cyclists are to honour fallen captain Dan Miiro in one of the stages during the LUMPDAR competition in Rubaga on Sunday. The 45-km mountain bike race is the first event on the national calendar this year. One of the stages in the race will be named ‘Dan Miiro Stage’.

Youth league
FUFA plans to run a national youth league starting with 30 pilot districts next year. Federation competitions committee secretary Moses Magogo said they had finalised the proposal pending approval by FUFA executive. Without mentioning the districts that will take part, Magogo said that the competition will begin with the U-16 before the U-17 the year after, for continuity in talent tapping.

Nyaika on top
Ronald Nyaika beat compatriot Ronnie Andira 3-1 to lift the Tanzania junior Table Tennis Open trophy in Dar-es-Salam on Wednesday. The youngster played with great purpose, dominating over the hosts and ensuring that Team Uganda win the overall trophy for the third year in a row.
