INFORMATION and Communication Technology (ICT) requires a law to protect consumers, the ICT minister, Dr. Ham Mulira, has recommended. Mulira said: “Due to dependence on the technologies, more daily chores are being transferred online.”

Speaking at the launch of Lenovo personal computers at Hotel Africana, he said the Electronic Transactions, Digital Signature and Computer Misuse bills were awaiting cabinet discussion.

Mulira urged the private sector to provide skills and academic institutions to widen usage and increase awareness of the benefits of information technology.

He said the Government would supplement ICT infrastructure through construction of a national data transmission backbone to link all districts.

“It also includes provision of e-government infrastructure,” Mulira said.
