ARCHBISHOP Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has divided Kampala Archdiocese into three pastoral zones and appointed Episcopal Vicars to take charge of them.

Lwanga announced the new pastoral arrangement during his visit to Nsambya parish on Sunday. The arrangement takes effect today.

“I recognised the need to take services nearer to the people. Kampala Archdiocese has over one and a half million Christians. This is quite a big number that calls for a special pastoral arrangement,” Lwanga explained.

The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Paul Ssemwogerere was named the Episcopal Vicar of Kampala zone covering the civil district of Kampala.

Msgr. John Baptist Ssebayigga is the Vicar of Mitala-Maria while the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Gerald Kalumba is in charge of Wakiso. The Mitala-Maria zone covers Mpigi district.

Msgr. John Wynand Katende now heads the education commission of the Archdiocese.Other Vicars are Msgr. Joseph Njala (in charge of Catechists) and Msgr. Charles Kato (land and investment).

Lwanga announced that Mondays were designated for him to meet priests, Brothers and nuns. However, the first Monday of every month is reserved for the Episcopal council meeting.

According to the roster, Lwanga meets lay Christians on Tuesdays while Wednesday is reserved for meeting priests and other religious duties.

It said Thursday is reserved for individuals or groups on appointment.
