Celebrating reggae music

To commemorate the first anniversary of Tuff Gong (the reggae night at Ange Mystique), several international reggae artistes are coming to town to perform at the reggae festival next Saturday.

To commemorate the first anniversary of Tuff Gong (the reggae night at Ange Mystique), several international reggae artistes are coming to town to perform at the reggae festival next Saturday.

Dubbed “Natural Mystic — The Legend Lives On”, the festival will be held at Ange Mystique’s parking lot at 7.00pm for sh10,000.

Expected are UK reggae band Aswad’s lead singer Brinsley ‘Dan’ Forde. John Kpiaye, credited for being one of the creators of the Lover’s Rock genre, will strum the lead guitar. TSBR will be on the bass while Henry “Zeb” Holder will play the keyboard. Dennis Bovell will be the music director.

They will be accompanied by BlackRoots Unlimited All Stars, a trio of Ugandan backing vocalists and Rwanda’s reggae star, Natty Dread.

Ange Noir official and BlackRoots Unlimited singer Tshaka Mayanja says the band will be a mixture of Ugandan and Jamaican musicians. Kampala and Nairobi-based Reggae DJs will also showcase their skills in the reggae fest.

The event coincides with the Black History Month and the Bob Marley week. On Wednesday, February 7, there will be a reggae exhibition and Bob Marley birthday party at Ange Mystique where fans will pay sh2000.

Marley is popularly known as the founder of reggae music.
