THE Government has identified 16 accident-prone spots on Kampala-Jinja and Entebbe highways, a Road Agency Formation Unit official has said.

Dan Kitakule, the unit’s communications officer, said on Wednesday that on Jinja Road, such ‘black spots’ include a 1km stretch at Njeru, Seeta, Namanve, Najjembe, Kitenga Wantoni, Mbalala and Kayanja.

Other places are Namawojolo, Namagunga and Bulumagi.

He said on Entebbe Road, black spots included a 1km stretch at Lubowa, Seguku, Lweza, Kajjansi, Bwebajja and Kitubulu-Katabi.

Kitakule said improvements on these spots will involve increasing the skid resistance of the roads.

“We are going to increase the width of roads in accident-prone areas and erect fences to stop people from crossing,” he said.

Kitakule said the Ministry of Works also plans to cover open ditches and drainage channels, as well as erect traffic warning signs.

He revealed that his unit has finalised the procurement process for a contractor for the accident black spots improvement project.

Kitakule disclosed that Spencon, Sobetra, Dott Services and Multiplex-Omega had submitted bids for the work and Multiplex won the tender.
