THE reality of the country’s top athletes competing in the same event locally will be realised today at the National Cross Country championships senior men’s 12km race.

Commonwealth 10000m champion Boniface Kiprop, Africa 10000m champion Moses Kipsiro, defending champion Isaac Kiprop and fourth place finisher in the World Road Running Championships, Wilson Busienei, are among 102 athletes that have entered the most competitive race on card.

The last time the Kiprops met in Entebbe, Isaac was the winner, but at that time, Boniface was recovering from a fever.

Today, the quartet, joined by national marathon record holder Alex Malinga are on form, and are set to offer the spectators a race worth their names.

The category also has renowned Amos Masai of Arua Athletics Club, Joseph Nsubuga, Francis Yiga and Paul Wakou for army team UPDF, Cirino Abong from Kakira and Jet Barnabas Kimwogo, Nicholas Kiprono and Eliphas Mayo for Kampala Central, who are all eyeing to spur their teams to good positions.

Hosts Sironko, like UPDF and Standard High School have entered two teams each in the race, which will climax the one-day event.

Another international star, world steeplechase champion, Dorcus Inzikuru, will compete in the senior women event.
