EGYPT-BASED Cranes forward Geoffrey Massa has finally won the battle to join Uganda Kobs in next week’s 2008 Beijing Olympics qualifier against South Africa.

The El Shams striker, whose return for Kobs’ duty had become uncertain, will step foot in Kampala today, after holding positive talks with club president Yesi Mallah on Thursday.

“We had a good meeting and came to an understanding. At times it is difficult taking decisions especially against your club under the circumstances it was. But I should be in Kampala by 1pm,” Massa divulged yesterday.

Mallah had previously cancelled Massa’s flight to Kampala in an attempt to have the 21-year-old available for El Shams’ trip to rivals El Masry on Wednesday. Kobs, striving to make it to Beijing engage the Amaglug-glug in a preliminary fixture on the same day.

“We have a hectic league schedule ahead but I had to choose. It is a privilege playing for your country,” he added.

Massa’s inclusion should be an inspiration for a side struggling to adapt to various rhythms of play.

Kobs have spent their previous training sessions working on how to close space around the opposition and perfecting their game in the final third of the pitch.

South Africa’s Amaglug-glug is a team with the ability to hit on the counter with devastating effect. If Kobs are unable of keeping hold of ball possession, they will run the risk of being exposed in their intended 4-3-3 style of play.

“I have watched them play, they won’t be easy. We have to change several aspects of our game,” head coach Lazslo Csaba pointed.

Meanwhile, the Amaglug-glug will be without their team captain Robyn Johannes. The Mamelodi Sundowns defender is out with an injury.

Kobs depart for the South African town of Potchefstroom on Tuesday.
