THE Kids League is preparing the groundwork for the historic trip of an FC Barcelona youth team to Uganda in September.

This was after TKL country director Trevor Dudley issued an invitation for Barca to send an academy team to Uganda. The Barca president, Joan Laporte, has agreed.

The under-15 squad of 16 boys returned safely to Uganda last weekend after a successful tour of Peru, Spain and Belgium.

In Peru they won three and drew two of their qualifying games to reach the final of the Copa De La Amistad Especial tournament.

They were later defeated 5-0 by Cruz Azul academy team from Mexico during the final of the class’92 tournament in Lima, Peru.

Cruz Azul academy team is one of the top premier teams in Mexico and they hope to visit Uganda next year.

The 15-hour working tour was crowned by a meeting with the whole Barcelona team including Samuel Eto’o, Ronaldinho as well as Barca chief Laporte at the Nou Camp.

TKL player Ali Abujere from Arua summed it all up: “I have just seen Ronaldinho and Eto’o with my own naked eyes”.

Meanwhile, the boys have returned to their homes in Gulu, Kitgum, Arua, Lira and Kumi. There is a lot of interest as the junior UNICEF ambassadors spread messages about health and education to their peers.
