By Vision Reporter Nakasero Market vendors have refused the 30% share offer from Kampala Mayor, Nasser Sebaggala, saying they are ready to develop the market at any cost. Ali Kayanja, the vendors’ chairman, said: “We do not want Sebaggala’s offer.

If it was true he managed to get 30% of the market ownership for us, why didn’t he get us 100%? We are sitting tenants. If there were negotiations, they would have been be with us. We want to do it like the Shauri Yako vendors are doing.”

Shauri Yaoko market vendors are developing half of the market, which was given to them by Kampala City Council (KCC). Nterefunye Enterprises got the other part. Kayanja added: “We are ready to undertake any developments KCC might want.

However, KCC did not even advertise the market. So, it is not useful discussing that issue.” Kayanja displayed two letters from the town clerk, Ruth Kijjambu, that were written on February 2. The letters were addressed to the managing directors of Victoria International Trading Company and Sheila Investments, terminating the companies’ contracts for two city markets.
