FOUR suspected game meat dealers have been arrested with a consignment of meat in Ngoma sub-county, Nakaseke district.

An anti-poaching team from the Uganda wild-life Authority moved to block the illegal hunting expedition mounted by over 30 poachers.

The authority dispatched the team after reports that poachers had mounted a hunting spree on Sunday.

The team blocked the dealers who had bought meat hoping to get into Kampala’s game meat outlets.

Terezina Ndeeraru and Janet Obiru from Bombo, confessed at Wakyato Police post that they were ferrying the meat to Kawempe and Bwaise in Kampala.

Other dealers accused of abating hunting expeditions, Bosco Komakech and David Iga, could not divulge details about the networks engaged in poaching.

The wildlife authority team recovered nine sacks containing smoked meat of bush pigs, warthogs, buffaloes, waterbucks, bushbucks and reedbucks.

Also recovered were two skins and limbs of rare nocturnal (only seen at night) animals.

The area stretching from Masindi to sembabule covering luweero, Nakaseke, nakasongola and Mubende districts has a large population of wild animals looming on private land.
