UGANDA Shooting Federation has opened its door to the armed forces in preparation for the All Africa games due in Algeria.

The entry of UPDF, Police and Prisons will be a big boost to the Olympic sport. Shooting has mainly been involving civilians.

The three forces’ teams expressed willingness to actively participate in the sport during the recent Inter-Forces games.

To kick-start the All Africa Games preparations, the sport has organised the first national shooting championship at Garuga range on March 17.

The national championship opens a series of the monthly events aimed at improving the standard of Ugandan shooters, according to federation chief Michael Mungoma.

“The championship will determine a national squad of 10 top shooters,” Mungoma told a press conference yesterday.

Federation secretary Gabriel Oloka, however, dispelled reports that shooting is a brief case association.

“Shooting is a very sensitive sport. Besides that, it is very expensive in terms of equipment, attire and ammunition,” Oloka said.
