MPS on the agriculture committee have criticised the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) for failing to extend its services to rural areas, despite serving for seven years.

The MPs said NAADS had failed to reach most upcountry areas as agreed at its inception in 2001.

Piro Santos (Adjumani) noted: “Few people have been sensitised about NAADS.”

Deus Bikwasizehi (Buhweju), the committee chairperson, accused the body of failing to market its services through radio.

Magoola Zirabamuzaale (Iganga) pointed out that farmers in Iganga were asked to form groups but to their surprise, NAADS gave them only two cocks.

“How can 30 women be given only two hens?”

The attack came when NAADS officials appeared before the committee last week.

However, the NAADS chief, David Kazungu, said they had covered 64 districts and would cover the whole country by 2008.

The President last month ordered a probe into the body following complaints that it was not having an impact on the agricultural sector.
