THE LC5 chairman of Kasese district, the Rev. Julius Kithaghenda, has advised people opposed to the recognition of the Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu (kingship) to respect the views of those interested in it.

“Some people who do not want Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu should keep a distance and let those who want it have it in peace. No body will force anyone to kneel for the Omusinga (king),” Kithaghenda said.

He was on Saturday addressing a crowd that turned up to welcome Charles Wesley Mumbere’s daughter, Christabel Furaha Kyibanzanga, at the palace in Kasese town
He said there were many indicators because the majority of the Bamba and Bakonzo cherish the institution.

The district secretary in-charge of works and environment, Selevano Mulhondi, said people do not appreciate NRM programmes because of the unresolved issue of the obusinga.

Last year, President Yoweri Museveni tasked Movement cadres in the district to establish the popularity of institution.

Mulhondi said the cadres led by retired Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, Zebedee Maseraka, had finished their work and were compiling a report, hinting that they would recommend the recognition of the kinship.

He said the institution would help to bring peace, stability and enhance development.
