THE local athletics federation has petitioned the Olympic Solidarity to include more elite athletes on the world training programmes ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The athletics body made the plea through Uganda Olympic Committee asking the world body to include more senior athletes on their scholarship scheme.
The Olympic Solidarity had only considered Dorcus Inzikuru and Boniface Kiprop.
The Olympic Solidarity caters for the training and expenses to international events for all those athletes with potential to qualify for the Games.
Africa gold medalist and seventh finisher in the World Championship Moses Kipsiro, fourth finisher in the World Road Running Championships Wilson Busienei and sixth place finisher in the World Championship marathon Alex Malinga are missing on the programme.
Meanwhile the local athletics federation technical committee has shifted the national track and field trials due Saturday from Kyambogo to Luzira.
Organising secretary Faustin Kiwa yesterday announced that they had to shift to Luzira to accommodate field events.
“After checking Kyambogo, we realised that it could not accommodate the throws and jumps,†said Kiwa, after a technical committee meeting.
