A casual labourer, housewife and a husband were among the four people murdered over the weekend in Kampala bringing the number of murders registered by the Police since January to 20.

The Kampala Police chief, Grace Turyagumanawe, yesterday told a press conference that the four were killed in the city suburbs of Lubowa, Najjanakumbi, Makindye and Kifumbira zone in Katwe.

He revealed that Diana Nakyanzi was murdered by her husband, Hannington Katumba, for allegedly having sex with his son.

“Katumba, an electrician and resident of Lubowa beat Nakyanzi with an electric cable. She became unconscious, asked for water from the husband and died shortly after.”

Turyagumanawe said Katumba reported himself to Lubowa Police post where he was arrested and transferred to Katwe Police station to face murder charges.

The Police chief stated that the second murder was of Robert Byansi, a resident of Kifumbira zone, Katwe, who was killed by his wife. She is yet to be identified and is on the run.

The third death was of Sam Kole, a Karimojong casual labourer, who was waylaid and beaten by unknown thugs as he went home in Makindye. His body was taken to the city mortuary and investigations to find the murderers are underway.

Turyagumanawe added that John Mugisha, from Hoima, was found dead at Nakulabye Guest House, three days after he had booked in.

“The hotel management got concerned when after three days, he had not come out. They used a spare key to get in and found him dead with a chit stating that he had no relative.”

Police statistics indicate that 15 people were murdered in Kampala during late January and early February.

Among them was Joel Tumusiime, a suspected thief, lynched in Kivulu.
