The Buvuma county MP, William Nsubuga, has warned the Mukono LC5 chairman, Francis Lukooya, against creating hostility with the Buganda kingdom authorities.

Addressing a council meeting on Friday at the community hall, Nsubuga told Lukooya that a sure way of him failing in the 2011 elections was to begin a war with Mengo. “You can only create enmity with Mengo at your own peril. If you are not interested in the 2011 elections, then go ahead.”

Lukooya is locked in wrangles with the Buganda government over the control of Ssenyi, Kiyindi and Katosi landing sites. He recently led a team of district officials to take over the sites, but they met stiff resistance from Mengo agents, prompting Police intervention. Nsubuga warned that such land wrangles would pit the masses against the Government.

He called for an immediate resolution to the conflict. “What is important is not who owns the sites, but the peaceful resolution of the issue,” Nsubuga asserted at the meeting attended by several councillors.
