Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been asked to travel by road to Kasese.

This request was made by the executive director of the Commonwealth Peoples Association of Uganda, Fredrick Kiapi, at the opening of the Commonwealth week at Nserester Secondary and Vocational Complex in Nyendo, Masaka on Thursday.

Kiapi said the Queen will visit the Queen Elizabeth National Game Park three days before the official opening of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) on November 25.

“In the interest of the Commonwealth cause, it will make more meaning for the locals to have a glance at the Queen because it will take another 108 years for Uganda to host CHOGM.”

He called for intensified Commonwealth awareness up-country so that the locals can support it. Kiapi advised the education minister, Namirembe Bitamazire, to integrate the Commonwealth into the education curriculum in primary and secondary schools.

He revealed that Commonwealth clubs had been formed in schools with the aim of ensuring its continuity after CHOGM.

Preparations are ongoing to host a CHOGM for students from Commonwealth countries in Africa between October and November.

Kiapi gave Commonwealth educational packages like films, posters, the Queen’s message and charts to schools in Masaka.

Ten schools participated in essay writing, poems, singing and dancing competitions at the function.
