CRANES’ look set to replicate the near-death experience that saw them almost fail to honour their Nations Cup qualifier against Niger last October.

The Ugandan team’s much-anticipated trip to Nigeria hangs in balance again.
FUFA claims they are yet to secure sh150m required to facilitate the team’s journey to Lagos on Wednesday.

FUFA chief executive officer Charles Masembe yesterday grumbled about government’s failure to release funds on time.

Sports state minister Charles Bakkabulindi, however blasted Masembe for ‘idle talk.’

“We presented our sh150 budget way back and nothing has come up. We are worried that the team might suffer the same scenario we had against Niger,” Masembe said.

Bakkabulindi dismissed Masembe’s fears.
“He (Masembe) should first go and learn how management is done. Then, he will know where to go and start complaining,” is all Bakkabulindi said when asked if the Cranes have money to travel to Lagos.

Cranes were rescued last year by Michael Ezra, who paid for the air-tickets to Niamey.

Meanwhile, Nigeria German coach Berti Vogts has demanded a ‘world class’ performance from his star-studded Super Eagles against Uganda Cranes.

“The first thing to do on March 24 is to beat Uganda and I need a good performance from the team as a first step,” Vogts said yesterday.

“What Nigeria need is good organisation while I am here. I will also bring in two local players into my squad for the match.”

Meanwhile, Katumwa Sports Centre director David Katumwa yesterday handed over balls and training requirements to FUFA’s Asuman Lubowa and Rogers Mulindwa.
