Over 98km of the 145km Busunju-Kiboga-Hoima road has been tarmacked, leaving 47km in need of repairs.

The Road Agency Formation Unit (RAFU) stated that over 80% of the work was finished, with 58km tarmacked on the Busunju-Kiboga section and 40km on Kiboga-Hoima road.

The agency’s spokesperson, Dan Alinange, last week said the remaining 11km of the Busunju-Kiboga road would be completed by July and 36km of the Kiboga-Hoima section by November.

This was after a team of RAFU engineers visited the site last week to assess the progress of the sh65b road project funded by the International Development Agency.

Busunju-Kiboga is 68.9 kilometres long while the Kiboga-Hoima stretch is 76 kilometres.

On the latter section, a crushed stone base has been laid.

The contractor, Stirling Civil Engineering Limited, will upgrade both stretches to class II bituminous paved roads.

The delay in completion of the road had sparked off a public outcry over the dust that is raised whenever vehicles drive by.

Stirling general manager Gennaro Sirgiovanni argued: “There is dust at the uncovered part just like anywhere else. This is a dry season.”

He, however, promised that construction was on course.

Upon completion, the road is expected to improve transport between Kampala, Kiboga and Hoima districts.
