AS Uganda prepares to take part in the Division Three World Cricket league in Australia May 27-June 2, coach Sam Walusimbi is still searching for opening batsmen.

Eight countries assemble in Darwin for the International Cricket Council championship that will have two nations qualify for the 2009 mini World Cricket Cup.

“I need a senior opening batsman to pair up with one of the youngsters as we also try other possibilities,” Walusimbi remarked during training.

Arthur Kyobe (18), Roger Mukasa (17) and Mauneek Solanki (17) are currently Walusimbi’s options.

Lawrence Sematimba, Benjamin Musoke, Baig Akbar and Keith Legesi have disappointed with the role in the past.
Tanzania, USA, Papua New Guinea, Oman Republic, Malaysia, Cayman Island and Fiji will take part in the week-long event.

South Africa-based semi-professional Joel Olweny currently with Lenasia CC is the likely senior player to open the batting alongside one of the youngsters.

As the Australia tour draws closer, the national team players, according to the coach, are yet to show improvement with the bat.

“We are still sorting out issues with the batting. Some players are not committed,” Walusimbi noted.
