THE Ugandan team has been dealt a major blow ahead of this Sunday’s United Assurance Central Africa motocross championship after star Olivier Van Pee broke a leg.

Olivier, one of Uganda’s top performers in the 125cc class, broke a leg during a training session at Garuga on Tuesday.

“It’s very unfortunate that Olivier sustained such a serious injury with just few days to the championship. He is one of the riders we were relying on to reap points in the competition. Our 125cc squad would have been much strong with his participation,” team captain Arthur Blick remarked.

Jack Evans will lead the 125cc as Uganda faces off against arch rivals Kenya. Congo, Tanzania and Rwanda are expected to field individual riders.

Maxim Van Pee and Mathis Honnorat will lead the 85cc and 65cc respectively.

Three-year-old motorcycle genius Alastair Blick is Uganda’s lone flag-bearer in 50cc category.

Uganda has named a squad of 22 to compete in the United Assurance sponsored international event.
