AFTER dominating the Kenya Championships, Stephen Odwar will be tested by Uganda sprinters at the third national trial at the UPDF ground in Bombo today.

The Tororo-based athlete won both the 100m and 200m events at the Kenya championships over the weekend.

The national 100m champion, who changed allegiance from Kakira to Fame Sports Club, will be out to face Ali Ngaimuko as they fight to qualify for the All Africa Games due in Algiers in August.

Local athletics federation UAF, waived off the IAAF rules that require sprinters to qualify via an electronic timer, giving them a chance to qualify with hand timers.

Though missing the competition of Daniel Okiror, who will not be able to make it to the event, new names in Fazil Sabulya and Robert Akol will be out to impart new pressure in the sprint races.

“They are new names but they are on form. We expect more of them at the event,” said UPDF coach Gordon Ahimbisibwe, who will be hosting the event.

Tough competition is also expected in the middle distances when Kakira’s Waisswa Lukungu clashes with Tororo’s Samuel Egadu in the 400m race.
