PEOPLE who engage in extramarital affairs are to blame for the increase in cases of child abuse in the country, the former ethics minister has said.

Miria Matembe, who was speaking at a fundraising function for Aisha Nabukeera on Thursday at Theatre La Bonita in Kampala, described adulterers as brainless.

“How can you burn your fellow woman’s child because of sex? Men who abandon their own children for devilish women and those who rape kids are very stupid.”

The outburst came after Nabukeera narrated to the audience the tragic tale of how her stepmother allegedly caused her to be burnt by forcing her to wear a dress doused in paraffin.

Matembe, who like the rest of the audience could not hold back her tears, said if she was still a minister, she would have arrested all the suspects in Nabukeera’s case.

She, however, asked Nabukeera to forgive whoever burnt her if she was to completely heal, saying they were used by the devil.

“The Lord has plans for everybody. You should accept that it is God’s plan for you to pass through all this. God wanted to fulfill his purpose of showing his power to the world,” Matembe said before leading a short prayer for Nabukeera.

Nabukeera’s guardian, Frank Gashumba, thanked the people present and said sh9m was realised from the sale of concert tickets.
