<b>Police probe Mutale’s escorts</b><br>LUWEERO - The Police are investigating an incident in which escorts of Maj. Roland Kakooza Mutale allegedly assaulted a private security guard and disarmed him.

LUWEERO - The Police are investigating an incident in which escorts of Maj. Roland Kakooza Mutale allegedly assaulted a private security guard and disarmed him. The gun is being kept as an exhibit at Luweero Police station where Mutale surrendered it to security personnel. The district police chief, Chris Tindigarukayo, said the incident happened in matembe village in Bamunanika County where Mutale has a farm. He said Mutale’s men accused the guard of illegally hoarding cows of a neighbour and demanding money before releasing them.

Five held on Easter Day
KAMPALA - Five suspected thugs were arrested on Easter Sunday as they attempted to break into the Madhvani warehouse on Fifth Street, Industrial area. The police spokesman Kampala extra, Simeo Nsubuga, identified the suspects as Frank Tumwebaze, Justine Musoke, Steven Kisozi, Moses Tumwesigye and Abbey Bahati. In another incident, a fire gutted Fan Tea Process Company on Bombo road at 1:00am on Easter Day, destroying five processing machines. Nsubuga, however, said the crime rate had reduced.

NRM campaigns for LC5 chief

KAMULI - The NRM has stepped up support for its candidate in the LC5 by-elections. The party vice-chairman of the eastern region, Capt. Michael Mukula, yesterday urged NRM members to support Stephen Mubiru. “I call upon all party officials at all levels, mobilisers and cadres to maintain full support for the candidate and our party in order to deliver victory to the people of Kamuli and prosperity for all,” Mukula said. Other contestants are Salaamu Musumba (FDC) and Paul Lubowa, an independent.

DP to hold UK polls
LONDON - The UK-chapter of the Democratic Party (DP) is to elect its leaders on Saturday at Forest Gate Durning Hall. The interim executive committee headed by Andrew Lubega Mulindwa met over the weekend at 123 Upton Lane and elected Christine Musaala to oversee the elections. Godfrey Ssekisonge, the secretary general, revealed that the party voters register for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland had been updated.
