Easter sales low in city

KAMPALA-Traders in Kampala recorded lower sales during this year’s Easter season compared to last year’s. Several traders said although the number of customers relatively increased compared to the days before the weekend, the turn up was below what they expected. “I have not even sold half of what I sold last Easter,” said a textiles trader on William Street. Kampala City Traders’ Association spokesperson, Issa Ssekitto, attributed the poor sales to increased power cuts. “Electricity has a multiplier effect on business.”

Vandals worry Entebbe cleric

WAKISO-Vandalising of motor vehicles and theft of computers is scaring Christians away from St. John’s Church, Entebbe. At his Easter sermon, the Rev. John Kavuma appealed to the mayor of Entebbe, Stephen Kabuye, to help them, saying they had contacted the Police several times without any response. He said three computers had been stolen from a school owned by the church and four computers from cars of people attending service. “The Police just pick fingerprints and only return to take statements when there is another robbery,” said Kavuma.

Kalisizo gets street lights

RAKAI-Street lights worth sh10m are being installed in Kalisizo town. The LC3 chairman, Richard Ntambaazi, said energy saving bulbs would be used. During an interview on Monday, he said they diverted sh4.8m of the local government development grant meant for constructing latrines at a playground within the town to complete the lighting. “The town council does not own the playground, so spending too much on it would be wastage of resources.”
