CHINESE investors have partnered with the Buganda government to renovate and promote the Mutesa I Royal University to international standards. Liu Jian Jun, the director of China Africa Business Council, led a 15-man team to tour the university at the former Uganda Technical College in Masaka.

Liu asked the university to avail them with requirements for the renovation of the buildings and equipping the library and some laboratories.

He said they want to link the university to other modern universities in China and modernise it to one of the best in East Africa.

The Chinese want to promote mechanisation and commercial agricultural training and asked either the kingdom or the Government to provide them with land for this.

The group met the Uganda Investment Authority officials, who allowed them to get a 99-year lease to plant and process food crops in Masaka.

Members of the university council, led by the vice-chancellor, Prof. Munaku Kaama Nsereko, thanked the team for their support and pledged to work with them.

Former Katikkiro Dan Muliika linked the investors to the university.
