Amakula film festival kicks off in Kampala

THE fourth edition of the Amakula Kampala International Film Festival got underway yesterday and will run until Saturday, May 12.

THE fourth edition of the Amakula Kampala International Film Festival got underway yesterday and will run until Saturday, May 12.

This year’s festival is running under the theme Travel, Transit.

Filmgoers can catch the action at the National Theatre and a selected 30 video halls around town. The festival will however open in video halls on Sunday, May 6 at Katwe playground next to Kibuye roundabout at 4:00pm.

Activities within the 10 days will include seminars, music, dance and video performances and an art exhibition.
There will also be a symposium by regional storytellers.

The best East African film will receive the Golden Impala Award at the end of the festival.

The festival will also involve the East African Film Critics’ workshop, which is aimed at teaching critical writing skills to journalists from East Africa.

The workshop will be conducted by Professor Mbye Cham, a renowned professor of literature and film in the department of African Studies at Howard University in the US and Ogova Ondega, a Kenyan writer.
