TWO of the PRA rebel suspects facing murder charges have been transferred back to Nyamushekyera Prison in Bushenyi district. Darious Tweyambe and Frank Atukunda arrived in Bushenyi at around midday yesterday in a Prisons pick-up truck.

Within three hours of their arrival, Tweyambe was rushed to Ishaka Hospital for treatment.

Tweyambe told journalists outside the prison that he suffered from high blood pressure and nasal bleeding.

“Am supposed to see my doctor three times a week, but now I have not visited him for the last three days because of court issues,” Tweyambe said.

Joseph Musasizi Kifeefe, a brother to FDC leader Kizza Besigye, is still admitted to Mulago Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for cancer.

Tweyambe, Atukunda and Musasizi are accused of murdering John Byarugaba in 2002 at Imaramagambo in Bushenyi district.

The three suspects were brought to Bushenyi on March 2, where they were charged with murder. They were then transferred back to Luzira after the case hit a snag thrice because they refused to appear before the court within the Prisons premises, describing it a “Kangaroo Court”. The three, and nine others including Besigye, are also facing treason charges.

The suspects appeared before High Court judge Eldad Mwangusya on Monday but the trial failed to take off because their lawyers had petitioned the Constitutional Court to block it.

Lawyer David Mpanga then asked the judge to release the suspects, saying their remand period had expired.
The Judge declined to handle the issue, arguing that it was not under his jurisdiction.

The lawyers later consulted the Principal Judge, Justice Ogoola, who reportedly told them that he would appoint a judge to listen to the bail application.
