KAMPALA Central Division chairman Godfrey Nyakaana yesterday attacked the local government minister, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, for investigating the financial and administrative irregularities.

Otafiire inaugurated a commission of inquiry into allegations that Nyakaana flouted the local government regulations in awarding tenders for collecting fees from public toilets, food vendors, pay phone operators and hawkers.

“The commission is not the issue. The issue is Otafiire versus Nyakaana. His problem is personal. But I know how to solve it. Otafiire should know that when you bark, there are other people who can bark louder.”

Nyakaana wondered why Otafiire was witch-hunting him yet the recent local government ministry’s assessment report rated his division the best in revenue collection in Kampala district.

He promised to write to the NRM disciplinary committee over: “Otafiire’s persistent personal problem with me.”

“Otafiire should be the first to be probed because he has been involved in all the illegal land sales in Kampala even when he was still the lands minister.

He ordered the demolition of my house and no other house in the area was demolished,” Nyakaana said.

Nyakaana’s house was in a wetland in Bugolobi.
