CSABA Laszlo is the coach of The Uganda Cranes which beat Nigeria’s Super Eagles 2-1 at Namboole last Saturday. The Hungarian has been married to a German woman Mariana, for 15 years and they have two daughters. Pidson Kareire asked him what he thought about Ugandan women

UGANDAN women are nice, but I am already married; so they have no space in my heart. Besides, my passion is sports. I must not lose my head over women. Beautiful women are born everyday and everywhere; we just need control and discipline, otherwise one can mess up his life.

But with your fat salary, don’t they go after you?
No woman has a chance of getting my money. I love my wife and my dime. Women all over are the same; the difference is that most women in Europe have a possibility of making their own money.

You want to say none has floored you yet? Not even a crush on any?
I have not realised that because my heart is always on my wife. I respect and love her so much. I meet the women everyday, smile but it ends there.
But I am told you are a fan of The Obsessions, a local singing and dance group. Wouldn’t you trade them for anything?
They are pretty and have good music, but I don’t think I can trade them for my wife. I respect her. I cannot compare her to the Obsessions.

How did you meet?
We met in German. She was with friends I knew and I liked her. When I proposed, she accepted. We have been married since 1992.

How do you balance coaching and marriage?
It is not easy for the family. You go home for a short time and if you have watched some of the games on Supersport, you must have seen how the coaches are under tension. Sometimes we carry this tension home. But I must compliment my wife. She has always been patient and cool-headed enough to give me comfort.

And just two daughters in 15 years, don’t you need a son?
I am happy to have two girls. My culture does not tell me: “you must have a son.” They are all children.

Does sex before a match have any negative effect on players?
(Laughs). No. I think everyone knows his strength. This is a personal issue. But I think people should have sex to have a healthy mind. It does not matter at all; these are sportsmen who are physically fit, that exercise cannot rob their strength. The only problem may be psychological. If you know you have hysterical problems, it is better you put off the idea of sex for some time until the game is over.

Fans say you were not emotional during the match. Does this continue at home?
No, home is different. You see, in the pitch, I am a leader and players keep their eyes on me and if I lose my head, I don’t think it helps them. Players need someone strong on the bench, too much emotion robs your clear thinking, and you cannot take good decisions.

What do you say about Uganda’s lifestyle?
It is very difficult to compare Uganda to any European country. Here, everything is slow. People do not follow timetables. If you make an appointment with someone, he or she will appear two hours late. Secondly, I miss shopping at original stores. Here most people shop from Owino Market, where the products are not original. Another challenge, there are not many places with Cappuccino; I don’t drink alcohol, so I need good places where to relax and take my coffee most of the time.

Do you think Uganda is a good country to bring up your children?
Yes. I am happy to have them here. They are exposed and are here for adventure. When they go back to Europe, they will be a little better than children there. My eldest daughter speaks four languages now, but in few years to come she will speak more languages, which is to her advantage.

What did your wife say when goons stole your phone and wallet at Namboole?
I am annoyed with whoever traded such lies. I have my phone here and I have never lost anything. Some people struggle to create grudges between us and the fans. No fan stole my property. But if it had happened, she would have comforted me.

Where do you hang out?
I go to Kabira Country Club to play tennis and Café Pub for Cappuccino. I don’t drink alcohol and discotheques never thrill me.
