THE Japanese government is to offer a grant towards the rural electrification project. The grant will be used in the construction and improvement of power distribution networks in the eastern, western and central regions.

The grant agreement was signed in Kampala on Wednesday by the energy permanent secretary, Kabagambe Kaliisa and Susaki Takehiro, the JICA country resident representative.

Kaliisa, who did not specify the grant amount, however, noted that since 1991, Japan had extended more than $40m towards rural electrification project.
