JICA clarifies on power deal

IN our article “Japan to fund rural power,” on page 36 on Friday, June 8, we incorrectly stated that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had signed a grant agreement with the energy ministry for the rural electrification programme.

IN our article “Japan to fund rural power,” on page 36 on Friday, June 8, we incorrectly stated that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had signed a grant agreement with the energy ministry for the rural electrification programme.

However, Susaki Takehiro, the JICA resident representative, has clarified that the document signed was “minutes of the basic design study of the project.

“In the document, some important issues have been agreed, but official commitment for the implementation of the project, is not among them.”

“Grant agreement of the project, which is called exchange of notes, has not been signed yet,” he said.
