RESIDENTS of Dokolo have been encouraged to open up village banks. The woman MP for Dokolo district, Cecilia Atim Ogwal, said this would help the locals get loans from the Government.

Ogwal said the Government is committed to supporting the communities that have formed village banks to gain from the Bonna Bagagawale (prosperity-for-all) micro credit loan scheme.

She said the banks would help women and the youth in Dokolo to fight poverty.

Ogwal was speaking during the launch of Atabu widows and orphans care cooperative savings and credit society village bank at Atabu Primary school in Bata sub-county.

She also launched the Agwata motorcycle boda boda association and donated sh2m as start-up capital.

The Agwata LC3 chairman, Dilson Ocen, said the bank would help fight poverty in the area.

“Pregnant women are dying due to lack of transport to take them to the nearest medical centre.”
