IT was not only the national soccer team — The Cranes — that missed winger David Obua, but the entire Lesotho community.
The lanky striker missed out on the Cranes Nations Cup qualifier away to Lesotho due to a hamstring injury, and his absence was felt on the team.
But beyond the players and the Ugandan fans that turned up at the Setsoto stadium, the Basotho who turned up also wanted an eyeful of the midfielder, who is an idol here after his outstanding performance with South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs.
Shouts of “that’s Obua†whenever a Ugandan got hold of the ball were regular in the stadium.
“Uganda! Kaizer Chiefs! Obua!†They always shouted whenever they saw someone adorned in a replica jersey of the national team, with Uganda embodied on it.
Elsewhere, though a draw was the least that travelling fans expected, most of them left Maseru more confident that Uganda can make it to Ghana.
“They demoralised our boys but we will be in Ghana. Please book me on that trip. We played the best away football,†said one Rose Tushabe.
