CRANES sensation Dan Wagaluka stands on the brink of joining national teammate David Obua at South African giants, Kaizer Chiefs.

The diminutive winger (left)— who has just three international matches under his belt — earned glowing reviews after his Cranes debut start against Nigeria at Namboole.

But more tangible rewards lie in ambush after Premier Soccer League heavyweight, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, expressed interest in his signature.

Both sides spotted Wagaluka during the televised June 2 qualifier and enjoyed an even more forensic analysis of his gifts when Uganda spent a week in Johannesburg — gearing up for the qualifying return leg against Lesotho.

And though the Cranes camped at Mamelodi, the Chiefs are reported to have the edge in the bidding race — with Obua’s presence on the latter’s pay-roll likely to have a huge role in attracting Wagaluka’s services.

The lanky midfielder is being lined up to act as a guardian angel and help his compatriot adapt faster to the diverse demands of South African football.

Obua’s company should provide a more comforting contrast to the loneliness an isolated Wagaluka could endure at Mamelodi.

“There have been some talks and my club knows all about it,” Wagaluka remarked yesterday.

“I’ll be meeting soon with club officials to chart a way forward. However, right now, I’m trying to concentrate on the task of helping my present club win the league,” he added.

Champions-elect, URA are Wagaluka’s current paymasters and the taxmen are tipped to plunder their second successive league title this Friday when they engage KCC in a decisive encounter at Wankulukuku stadium.

Meantime, Cranes stars Geoffrey Sserunkuuma and Hassan Wasswa are also destined for South Africa.

The pair’s agent Mujib Kasule flew out today to finalise their moves to Premier League outfit Benoni.

Sserunkuuma — a Cranes striker — and Wasswa, an international defender, have been featuring for St George in Ethiopia after transferring from Lugogo side, KCC.

URA will also be without first choice goalkeeper Mulindwa Muwonge tomorrow. He departs today for trials in South Africa.
