RITA Nekesa won a double, as the three-day Mbale Table Tennis Open championship climaxed Sunday. The Mbale SSS upcoming star, dropped off the national table tennis’ All Africa Games team due to shortage of funds, beat Mbale Tigers’ Amina Namaganda in straight sets in the girls final.

She went on to also beat her school mate Regina Nakibule in straight sets to lift the women’s trophy. The championship was sponsored by SIDA, Twiga, Yasaka company, Stigma company, Elgon Flyer and the International Table tennis federation.

Though Nekesa’s effort managed to help Mbale SSS win the girls’ team trophy, they could not match Nabumali High School, who beat them 2-1 to lift the women team trophy.

Ronald Nyaika beat Eddie Omongole of Mbale Tigers to lift the boys’ title, but lost to Kevin Mafabi in the men’s open.
The best performing foreigner was Dar es Salaam’s Fatihya Hassan, who lost to Rebecca Akitenge in the girls’ cadet final.
