THE Police yesterday maintained heavy deployment at Nakasero market.
They also increased deployment at Kisekka Market to avert violence following reports of a row between two rival factions of vendors there.

“People have resumed normal business,” said Kampala police spokesperson Simeo Nsubuga yesterday.

“We should not be misunderstood, especially by (businessman Hassan) Basajjabalaba that we are interfering with his operations. I think the reception he got there yesterday was clear and I appeal to him to resolve his matter through the proper procedure with the relevant authorities.”

All the four officials of Basajjabalaba’s Shiela Investments, who were detained by the Police on Thursday following the clashes were released.

“In effect we just rescued them from the vendors and after questioning them, we released them the same day,” Nsubuga said.

On Thursday chaos flared up in the market as officials of Sheila Investments, who attempted to forcefully recapture their offices, clashed with vendors.

In Kisekka Market, famously known for selling vehicle spare parts, Nsubuga said a row had emerged between two factions, one pro-development and another opposed to the project.

“We know there is a problem there and we have deployed there to ensure that it doesn’t get out of hand.”
