THE National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has earmarked sh11b towards the completion of the second phase of the Seeta-Mukono water project.
The project was a 2001 presidential pledge.

The NWSC managing director, Dr. William Muhaire, said work on the phase would last 10 months.

“This is the first time NWSC is solely funding such a big project,” he noted during the ground-breaking ceremony at Nabutti Hill on Monday.

The work will entail construction of two reservoirs at Tucker Hill and Gulama in Mukono and Seeta and a booster stationed at Namanve.

Two other low level reservoirs will be constructed in each of the two towns.

In a speech read by water state minister Jennifer Namuyangu, the water and environment minister, Maria Mutagamba, re-affirmed the Government’s commitment towards the provision of safe water to Ugandans.

“NWSC can adequately supply enough water after the commissioning of Ggaba III water treatment project in May.”

Mukono town council chairman Johnson Muyanja hailed NWSC for funding the project.
