The Government should give priority to vendors in the new plan to redevelop markets, the Member of Parliament for Rubaga South, Suzan Nampijja Lukyamuzi, has said.

“Let Kampala City Council or the central government borrow money on behalf of vendors to redevelop the markets.

“Any pro-people government has to come up with policies that benefit the majority, not just a few individuals,” Nampijja said.

She was recently updating the vendors of Kibuye Market about the decision of Mengo government to give the vendors the authority to redevelop the market.

She was flanked by her father, John Ken Lukyamuzi, Makindye East MP Micheal Mabikke and Fred Bamwine, the area resident district commissioner.

Nampijja asked the Government to amend the Local Government Act so that markets are not taken by highest bidders, but are retained by the vendors.

She said vendors in Nateete Market live in fear because the land title to the market is still missing.
