TORORO Municipal council has launched a sh198m exercise to seal potholes, rehabilitate roads and open up drainages.

The town clerk, Kenneth Ofwono, explained that sh35m would be spent on sealing potholes on Uhuru drive, Market street, Bazzar street and Nagongera road.

Ofwono added that the municipal council would spend sh32m on opening up three kilometres of Okisai and Macuri roads in Bison division, while the rehabilitation of Station Road would cost sh94m.

He said sh34m would be spent on reopening the drainage system on Uhuru drive and constructing one on Market Street.

Amatereza Limited was contracted at sh2.5m to plant 400 trees along major roads and public gardens in the town,
Ofwono said. “We have had difficulty maintaining these seedlings in the past and they normally ended up being eaten by birds or destroyed by loitering goats and cattle. This time, Amatereza Ltd will have to protect and replace any damaged seedling for a period of three months.”

Ofwono explained that the projects that are being funded from local revenue collections are expected to end late next month and would be replaced by routine maintenance.
