A $7.5m (sh12.3b) complex is going to be constructed on 4.5 acres in Kisenyi, Kampala. The four-storey building will have 350 shops on the ground floor and apartments and offices on the upper floors for sale under the Condominium Law.

The Condominium Law permits a person to buy a unit, which is part of a bigger building and share other utilities like parking space.

Ravi Bhatia, the managing director of Krish Developers and Consultants, said it would take 15 months to construct the complex.

The building is owned by Tirupati Developments.

Bhatia said the built-up area would be 12,000 square metres, while the parking space would accommodate 100 vehicles.

“There is great demand for housing in the area following the reduction in slum area by petrol stations, the bus terminal and landmark buildings like the Aids Information Centre and increased security,” Ssendawula Mwebe, the Local Council 1 chairman, said.

The complex is expected to transform Kisenyi, which is a slum area in Mengo.
