Youth ask for speedy talks

AMURU-The youth have called for the speedy conclusion of the Juba peace talks to enable them return to their villages and engage in productive ventures. This was said during the Youth Peace Actors assembly at Alero sub-county headquarters. The assembly was conducted by Foundation for Youth Transformation with funding from Save the Children in Uganda. According to the youth’s coordinator, Christopher Omara, the assembly will promote participation of the youth and children in the ongoing peace and reconciliation process.



Orphans get school items

GULU-Comboni Samaritans, a Catholic non-governmental organisation, has donated scholastic materials worth sh3.3m to 40 needy students in the area. Most of the students are studying in 10 technical schools in the districts of Gulu, Amuru and Kitgum. The director of the charity, Florence Aol Okech, handed over the materials that included exercise books, pens, pencils and mathematical sets to the beneficiaries at the charity’s offices in Layibi Division.


Constable arrested

GULU-A special Police constable was arrested over allegations that he illegally solicited sh570,000 from kiosk owners. The Layibi Division chairperson, Walter Odong, said Jimmy Akena, attached to Palaro sub-county in Aswa county, disguised himself as a law enforcement officer and used a demand note to collect the money.
