THE State Minister for Micro Finance, Gen. Salim Saleh, has warned political leaders against politicising the formation of saving and credit cooperative organisations (SACCOs).

“The moment you introduce political patronage in financial institutions, they will be no more.”

He said poor people had not benefited from the SACCOs because some leaders had interfered in the operations of the monetary institutions.

He was reacting to complaints from the district leaders that people, especially in the villages had not benefited from the financial institutions, citing political interference.

“It seems there is politicisation of SACCOs in Kabarole. The financial institutions belong to the people and not politicians,” Saleh said while addressing Kabarole district councillors, LC3 chairpersons and sub-county chiefs at Mucwa Council Chambers on Friday.

He urged the district leaders to sensitise communities on the Bonna Bagaggawale (prosperity-for-all) scheme.

“The leaders should educate the people about the scheme and help them increase their house-hold income.”

All LC3 chairpersons in the country, he added, would soon undergo training at the National Leadership Institute, Kyankwanzi.
