SEVEN Peoples’ Redemption Army (PRA) rebel suspects, who were granted bail last month by the Arua High Court, are still in jail.

They are Patrick Okiring, James Kabaka Tabuga, Yahya Amir Asiga, Idd Ahmed Yunus, John Arike, Bruhan Dratre and Samson Angupio.

Sam Njuba, the vice-president of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), yesterday said the party lacked the money to bail them. He appealed to good Samaritans to help them.

Wafula Oguttu, the FDC spokesman, criticised the Judiciary for imposing prohibitive bail conditions on the suspects.
“We view the bail conditions as prohibitive. It is against their rights.

Even if FDC wanted to help, it would require us about sh24m to buy their freedom. The bail conditions are politically designed to punish them.”

Justice Augustus Kania on July 30 asked the suspects to deposit sh2m each before being released. Their sureties were bonded sh10m each.

The suspects were also required to report to the Arua High Court once a month and to the Criminal Investigations Department in their districts twice monthly.

They are facing charges of treason and murder. They allegedly killed Lt. Mawa, on October 21, 2003 in Kiboko.
