A grain-processing plant worth $200,000 (sh344m) belonging to the Uganda Grain Traders (UGTL) is going to be sold.

“UGTL was put under receivership after failing to pay a bank loan of about $200,000 in addition to other problems,” a source explained.

The plant was worth sh344m at the time it was purchased two years ago. It was located in Nakawa Industrial Area before it was dismantled.

“It has been dismantled. That is all,” Kenneth Kabiito Karamagi, the receiver/manager of the plant, said.

Other UGTL assets to be sold are the quality control equipment for analysing moisture levels, electronic weighing scale, weighing and stitching equipment and two Nissan pick-ups.

UGTL was a major exporter of grain to southern African before it was put under receivership.

All bids must be received by the receiver/manager by 5.00pm on 3 September.

They will be opened on the same day at 5:30pm and all bidders are expected to attend. Successful bidders will be required to pay their offers in full within three days from the date of the offer letter.

According to the Timbuktu Chronicle, an online magazine, UGTL was formed by 14 grain trading firms. It established 16 local grain and producer associations.
