THE local government minister, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, has ordered the immediate re-opening of the Kaliro town clerk’s office. Addressing residents at the district headquarters on Monday, Otafiire directed that John Kasadha, returns to office and the right procedures be followed to reprimand him.

Nelson Wabulembo, the chairman of the district service commission, had on August 7 interdicted Kasadha on the recommendation of the Inspectorate of Government over abuse of office and negligence of duty.

The following day, several policemen raided the town council offices and disarmed the Local Defence Unit personnel before sealing off the premises.

A source at the closed meeting with district leaders said the fiery Otafiire criticised the district security committee for authorising the unlawful closure of the offices.

“Some of you had better go back to school and learn the laws of this land. We all work under clearly stipulated rules, which should be stuck to always,” he warned.

Otafiire instructed Tom Turyahikayo, the chief administrative officer, Wabulembo and Elijah Kagoda, the LC5 chairman, to resolve the matter.

Margaret Mbeiza, the district Woman MP, thanked Otafiire for intervening in the problem.

“The Major General is a very busy man but when he heard of the stand-off, he rushed here. This shows that the Government appreciates the fact that Kaliro district voted for President Yoweri Museveni,” she said.
