CID summons MP Kyanjo <br>KAMPALA<br>The Makindye West MP, Hussein Kyanjo, and other members of the opposition will today appear before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at Kibuli to answer to charges of making seditious statements and inciting violence.

The Makindye West MP, Hussein Kyanjo, and other members of the opposition will today appear before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at Kibuli to answer to charges of making seditious statements and inciting violence. The others are DP activists Betty Nambooze, Muwanga Kivumbi and Weekly Observer journalist Ssemujju Nganda. The CID acting deputy director, Elly Womanya, said Kyanjo made the statements during different talk-shows on Central Broadcasting Service, a city-based radio station. The shows cited are Tuzibuke Amaaso (July 25), Palamenti Yammwe (July 14) and Kiriza oba gaana (July 19). Kyanjo received the summons through the Speaker’s office at 1:00pm yesterday.

Free eye care for IDPs

About 100 surgeons from India and Uganda will carry out simple surgeries and eye operations on internally displaced persons (IDPs) in northern Uganda for one week. The president of the Rotary Club of Gulu, Moses Onen, on Wednesday said the operations would start on Monday at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor, Gulu Hospital, Kitgum Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital in Kitgum, Aber Hospital in Apac, Lira Hospital and Kalongo Hospital in Pader. The Rotary club contributed $80,000, while Crane Bank offered $70,000, to the medical and eye care camp.

Church needs sh100m
KAMPALA
Lubaga Cathedral still needs sh100m to complete its renovations. The Kampala Archbishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, recently told Christians at the cathedral that the Ssabasumba Annual Appeal Fund, launched recently, had yielded sh180m. Lwanga noted that some fundraising envelopes that were sent out were yet to be returned. He asked those with envelopes to return them. Prior to launching the renovation fund, Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala had collected sh289m for the same purpose. Engineers said the renovations would cost sh569m.
