GULU Municipality councillors recently passed a sh6.6b budget estimate for the financial year 2007/2008. This was during council meeting at the Gulu Public Library building.

The municipal secretary for finance, planning and administration, Andrew Opwonya, while reading the budget estimates to the municipal councillors, said the bulk of the funds will come from the central government in form of grants.

Only about sh1,1b is expected to be internally raised since there is peace now, Opwonya told the session, also attended by Christopher Acire, the mayor.

Opwonya, also the councillor for Kanyagoga parish in the municipality said their objective this financial year is to increase household income through improved service delivery.

This, he said, will be achieved through creating a conducive atmosphere for business opportunities.

The council also plans to create development growth opportunities through providing basic infrastructure, educational and health infrastructure.

Opwonya told the councillors that the key sector priority objectives and targets to be handled are health, education, roads and infrastructural development like increasing street lights, decoration of the Mayors garden and constructing a modern council hall.
