The Indian Women Association in Uganda (IWA) has given out scholarships worth sh17m to seven students of Kitante Hill School and four students of Mengo Senior Secondary School. Bishop warns teachers
KAMPALA
The Archdiocese Auxiliary Bishop, Christopher Kakooza, has asked teachers to avoid reckless conduct when doing their work. He said students, especially those in primary schools, had a tendency of copying their teachers behaviour. “Teachers pass on their mannerisms to their students unknowingly. We should, therefore, be mindful of the way we talk, walk, or even dress,” he advised.

Standard drops
JINJA
The performance of many primary schools in the district has remarkably deteriorated, the senior inspector has said.
Stephen Katankula blamed the decline on lack of inspection among headteachers, deputies and classroom teachers. He said abrupt inspections in a number of schools led to the discovery of many anomalies. He cited teachers’ failure to make schemes of work and lesson plans. Katankula said many teachers do not keep records of their work and hardly give pupils revision tests as well as home work.

Politicians blamed
BUSHENYI
The Uganda National Students’ Association has blamed the rampant strikes in schools on politicians. Peter Ogule, the association’s finance secretary, said politicians were interfering in the schools’ management. He was on a fact-finding mission after two students of Kirugu sss were shot recently. Ogule said the association would address the issue through parliament and the education ministry.
